Inger in 2005

Inger sings for you.

Inger Aarskog Jensen (1923-2011) grew up in Stavanger. She got an early introduction to music from her mother Rebekka Aarskog, who was an amateur on the violin as well as the piano, and also very fond of singing. From about the age of 20, Inger took song lessons regularly, and had a piano accompanist come to her every week until she was about 85 years old. Astrid Hallén was her accompanist from around 1970 until a few months before Astrid died in 1999. On October 31, 1972, Inger gave a full evening recital in Drammens Teater, with Astrid accompanying. The programme was impressive, featuring songs by Hector Berlioz, Carl Nielsen, Gustav Mahler, Robert Schumann and Richard Strauss.

In 1997, when Inger was 73 years old, Hugo recorded a dozen of her songs at the home of Astrid Hallén in Sandvika. The recordings were done with an old-fashioned tape recorder, and have since been digitized. Inger gives an oral introduction to each song. Hugo presents these recordings of Inger's songs in loving memory and thankfulness, as a tribute to his mother. The photo shows Inger in 2005.
